Vintage bedspread

If you are following this blog for long, you already know about my passion for crochet and vintage. Well, imagine for a moment to find an amazing item that can combine this two passions in one. The result may be this gorgeous bedspread that I found with my grandma during one of our flea market tours. I've been surprised and as a "crocheter" slightly offended from the silly price of this gorgeousness! I can't imagine all the work required from this Lady (I suppose that was a Lady!) to make it. But I'm happy about this little "treasure" that my grandma bought for me, I'm for sure able to appreciate this masterpiece.

Se seguite questo blog da tempo, già siete a conoscenza della mia passione per l'uncinetto e per il vintage. Beh, immaginate per un momento di trovare un oggetto meraviglioso che può unire queste due passioni in una. Il risultato potrebbe tranquillamente essere questo splendido copriletto che ho trovato con mia nonna durante una delle nostre visite al mercatino delle pulci. Sono stato sorpresa e come "uncinettara" leggermente offesa dal prezzo ridicolo di questa magnificenza! Non riesco a immaginare tutto il lavoro richiesto da questa signora (suppongo almeno che fosse una donna!) per realizzarlo. Ma sono contentissima di questo piccolo "tesoro" che mia nonna mi ha voluto regalare, mi sento sicuramente in grado di apprezzare questo capolavoro.

This week on my coffee table: CRAFTING A MEANINGFUL HOME

Hello everyone and welcome to This week on my coffee table.
This week I would like to introduce you this book, "Crafting a Meaningful Home", by Meg Mateo Ilasco (Photographs by Thayer Allyson Gowdy). 
I'm always happy when I buy some new book, especially if it's a DIY book! And this one contains "27 DIY projects to tell stories, hold memories, and celebrate family heritage". The book is really well made, every project is explained in detail and at the end of the book, the appendix collect all the images that you can use to follow the instructions. The lovely thing is that the projects are realized by different designers, so they are very different among each other and in my opinion also easy to follow. I already find my favorite project: the doily rug! I just need the right rope!

Ciao a tutti e benvenuti a This week on my coffee table.
Questa settimana vorrei presentarvi questo libro, "Crafting a Meaningful Home", di Meg Mateo Ilasco (fotografie di Thayer Allyson Gowdy).
Sono sempre felice quando compro un libro nuovo, soprattutto se si tratta di un libro di fai da te! E questo contiene "27 progetti fai da te per raccontare storie, mantenere vivi i  ricordi, e celebrare il patrimonio familiare ". Il libro è davvero ben fatto, ogni progetto è spiegato in dettaglio e alla fine del libro, l'appendice raccoglie tutte le immagini che è possibile utilizzare per seguire le istruzioni. La cosa bella è che i progetti sono realizzati da designer diversi, quindi sono molto diversi tra loro e, a mio parere anche facile da seguire. Ho già trovato il mio progetto preferito: il tappeto centrino! Mi serve solo la corda giusta!

3 times Expedit

One of the thing that I like most to do, is create inspiration boards. I've started years ago filling an inspiration book and now I've discovered an internet site where is possible to create your own inspiration boards. The site is Olioboard and, after a free registration, you can start to create your first boards. There are a lot of products, divided in different categories, that you can use. I use this site when I have to create some boards for my interior styling school: is very easy and you can get a good result without too much effort. 
Well, yesterday I was thinking about this post and I've thought: why don't create some boards for my blog? So I've made 3 boards starting from a common element, the Ikea bookshelf Expedit, and I've planned 3 different rooms where this bookshelf can be used (livingroom, studio and entryway). I hope that you like these inspiration boards..they could be the subject for a new column!

A simple and bright livingroom, focussed on turquoise and white colors. 
The Expedit is perfect for a reading corner, to place the books and the top shelf 
could be use to support maybe a teapot!  
Un soggiorno semplice e luminoso, focalizzato sul binomio di colori bianco/turchese. 
La Expedit è perfetta per un angolo lettura, per ospitare i libri e il ripiano superiore può essere utilizzato per appoggiarci magari una teiera!


A vitaminic color for the studio is the right choice to keep high the attention. 
So, orange is perfect! Some vintage and design elements are perfect combined with the white Expedit and a couple of boards are essential! 
Un colore vitaminico per lo studio è la scelta giusta per mantenere alta l'attenzione. Quindi, l'arancio è perfetto! Alcuni elementi vintage e di design sono perfettamente combinati con la Expedit bianca e un paio di bacheche sono essenziali!



A classic entryway, a classic color combination: black and white. 
The Expedit is perfect to hold shoes and bags and the bench is the romantic touch. 
The different mirrors give "movement" to the wall and the umbrella stand is simply genial! 
Un ingresso classico, una classica combinazione di colore: bianco e nero. 
La Expedit è perfetta per contenere scarpe e borse e la panchina è il tocco romantico. 
Gli specchi diversi danno "movimento" alla parete e il portaombrelli è 
semplicemente geniale!

Una delle cose che mi piace di più fare, è creare inspiration boards. Ho iniziato anni fa a riempire un quaderno di ispirazioni e ora ho scoperto un sito internet dove è possibile creare le tue inspiration boards personali. Il sito è Olioboard e, dopo una registrazione gratuita, è possibile iniziare a creare le prime boards. Ci sono un sacco di prodotti, suddivisi in diverse categorie, che è possibile utilizzare. Io uso questo sito quando devo creare alcune tavole per la mia scuola di interior styling: è molto semplice e si può ottenere un buon risultato senza troppo sforzo.
Beh, ieri stavo pensando al post per oggi e ho pensato: perché non creare delle inspiration boards per il blog? Così ho fatto 3 boards a partire da un elemento comune, la libreria Expedit di Ikea, e ho pianificato 3 differenti stanze dove questa libreria può essere utilizzata (living, studio ed ingresso). Spero che vi piacciano queste inspiration boards.. potrebbero essere oggetto di una nuova rubrica!

Waiting for...

Hello everyone! I'm sorry because in these days I'm not blogging as usual, but we've guests! We're visiting some city together and I don't have time to write a decent post! This week on my coffee table: MODERN VINTAGE STYLE and PALE & INTERESTING

Happy monday!
This week on my coffee table, there is not just one, but two great books about interior and decoration. 
The first one is "Modern Vintage Style" by Emily Chalmers (words by Ali Hanan, photography by Debi Treloar). In Modern Vintage Style, Emily Chalmers - interiors stylist and owner of hip boutique Caravan - shows how using vintage items in a contemporary context can introduce humour, flair and personality to a home. The book is divided in two parts: inspiration and style. In the first section there are some examples of furniture, lighting, textiles, decorating and collections & display. In the second section, that's about the Style, there are some practical examples of the Modern Vintage Style applied at the different rooms of the house: cook&eat, live, sleep and bathe. I really like this book, because the vintage style is one of my favorite. The mid-century furnitures have a special kind of beauty and what about the quality? 
That's why I love so much my coffee table! (btw, do you remember the story?)

The second book is "Pale & Interesting" (Atlanta Bartlett and Dave Coote, photography by Polly Wreford). The subtitle explains exactly the content of the book: decorating with whites, pastels and neutrals for a warm and welcoming home. The book is divided in three sections: pale and interesting, putting it all together and the rooms. The first section start by taking a look at the design philosophy behind the look: Keep it Simple, Keep it Relaxed and Keep it Real. In the next one, they map out the key elements of the look. Finally The Rooms, takes a tour throughout the home, revealing how easy and enjoyable it is to live with chalky pastels, earthy natural tones and vintage shades.
One of the thing that I like most in this book, is the variety of the pictures. You can find different kind of style: vintage, romantic, modern. Well, another good purchase!

Buon lunedi!
Questa settimana sul mio tavolino, non uno, ma due interessantissimi libri sulla decorazione d'interni.
Il primo è "Modern Vintage Style" di Emily Chalmers (parole di Ali Hanan, fotografie di Debi Treloar). In Modern Vintage Style, Emily Chalmers - stilista d'interni 
e proprietaria della boutique Caravan - mostra come l'utilizzo di oggetti vintage in un contesto contemporaneo possa donare umorismo, fascino e personalità ad una casa. Il libro è diviso in due parti: l'ispirazione e lo stile. Nella prima sezione ci sono alcuni esempi di mobili, illuminazione, tessuti, decorazioni e collezioni. Nella seconda sezione, che riguarda più da vicino lo stile, ci sono alcuni esempi pratici di Vintage Modern Style applicato a diverse stanze della casa: cucina e tavola, living, stanza da letto e bagno. Mi piace molto questo libro, perché lo stile vintage è uno dei miei preferiti. I mobili della metà del secolo hanno un particolare tipo di bellezza e che dire della qualità?
Ecco perché amo tanto il mio tavolino da caffè! (a proposito, vi ricordate la sua storia?)
Il secondo libro è "Pale & Interesting" (di Atlanta Bartlett e Dave Coote, fotografie di Polly Wreford). Il sottotitolo spiega esattamente il contenuto del libro: decorare con i bianchi, colori pastello e neutri per una casa calda e accogliente. Il libro è diviso in tre sezioni: pale and interesting, putting it all together e l'ultima dedicata alle stanze. La prima sezione inizia con una spiegazione che sta dietro alla filosofia descritta nel titolo: Keep it Simple, Keep it Relaxed and Keep it Real. Nella parte successiva, vengono tracciati gli elementi chiave del look. Infine nelle camere, si fa un tour per tutti gli ambienti della casa, rivelando quanto sia facile e divertente vivere con i colori pastello, i toni naturali e le sfumature vintage.
Una delle cose che mi piace di più in questo libro, è la varietà delle immagini. È possibile trovare diversi tipi di stile: vintage, romantico, moderno. Bene, un altro buon acquisto!

This week on my coffee table: DECORATE

Happy Monday! 
Did you spent a nice weekend? Saturday I've been in Germany with my husband for a quick visit. We've visited Aachen, a very nice city close to the dutch border.
The weather was great and I've took a lot of pictures. Tomorrow I'm going to write a post about my day in Aachen. But today is Monday, the day of "This week on my coffee table". 

I'm happy (for several reasons) to introduce you "Decorate", a book wrote by Holly Becker and the co-author Joanna Copestick (Photography by Debi Treloar). 
The first reason is that Holly (the founder of decor8) is been my teacher for the past 4 weeks. As I already wrote here, I've decided to enter the "Blogging your way" e-course, that Holly organized with Leslie Shewring. I higly recomend this course, for any blogger that is looking for an original way to share ideas and inspirations. After this course I'm working on my blog more seriously, and I'm really inspired by all the contents that she shared with the class. 
Another reason about my happiness is that "Decorate" didn't disappointed my expectations. On the back cover, there is a review that in my opinion is the perfect sum of this book. Kelly Hoppen says "It is wonderful to see a book with practical quotes and inspirational imagery, showing real homes that one can imagine people living in". And it's true. Page after page you can find any kind of inspirations: boards, tips about textiles and wallpapers, apartments's plans...everything highligthed with gorgeous pictures.
This is not just a book, is a helpful manual for start to "Decorate"!

Felice lunedì!
Avete passato un bel fine settimana? Sabato sono stata in Germania con mio marito per una visita veloce. Siamo stati ad Aquisgrana, una città molto bella che si trova vicino al confine olandese.
Il tempo era ottimo e ho come al solito ho fatto un sacco di foto. Domani ho intenzione di scrivere un post sulla mia giornata ad Aachen. Ma oggi è lunedì, giorno di "This week on my coffee table".

Sono felice (per vari motivi) di presentarvi "Decorate", un libro scritto da Holly Becker e dalla co-autrice Joanna Copestick (fotografie di Debi Treloar). 
La prima ragione è che Holly (la fondatrice di decor8) è stata la mia insegnante durante le ultime 4 settimane. Come ho già scritto qui, ho deciso di partecipare al corso on line   "Blogging your way", che proprio Holly ha organizzato con Leslie Shewring. Raccomando vivamente questo corso, per ogni blogger che sta cercando un modo originale per condividere idee e ispirazioni. Dopo questo corso sto lavorando sul mio blog più seriamente e sono davvero ispirata da tutti i contenuti che ha condiviso con la classe. 
Un altro motivo della mia felicità è che "Decorate" non ha deluso le mie aspettative. Sul retro della copertina, c'è una recensione che a mio parere è la somma perfetta di questo libro. Kelly Hoppen dice: "E' meraviglioso vedere un libro con citazioni pratiche e immagini da cui trarre ispirazione, che mostra case reali in cui si puo' immaginare delle persone viverci". Ed è vero. Pagina dopo pagina si possono trovare ogni tipo di ispirazioni: consigli, suggerimenti su tessuti e carte da parati, piantine degli appartamenti...tutto accompagnato da bellissime immagini.
Questo non è solo un libro, è un manuale utile per iniziare a "decorare"!

All my colors

Finally, after a long (and not finished yet) winter, the first rays of light are back in my blue apartment. 
I've tought that is the right moment to change the color of my daybed..from blue to white! My grandma gave me a beautiful white bedspread that she bought many years ago in Sardegna (one of the most beautiful place that I ever seen). It is hand made and I like it in my living room!


I'm also proud to introduce to you my new crochet work, a pouf that I've created last week. I'm always looking for places where to put my things, like the computer, my magazines, the crochet works..so, when I went to Ikea last week I've bought this pouf and I've decided immediately to cover it with crochet. I think it is really nice, and you?

Finalmente, dopo un lungo (e non ancora finito) inverno, i primi raggi di luce sono tornati di nuovo nel mio appartamento blu.
Ho quindi pensato che fosse il momento giusto per cambiare il colore del mio daybed..dal blu al bianco! Mia nonna mi ha regalato un bellissimo copriletto bianco che ha comprato molti anni fa in Sardegna (uno dei posti più belli che io abbia mai visto). E' fatto a mano e mi piace moltissimo nel mio living!


Sono anche orgogliosa di presentarvi il mio nuovo lavoro all'uncinetto, un pouf che ho realizzato la settimana scorsa. Sono sempre alla ricerca di posti dove appoggiare le mie cose, come il computer, le mie riviste, i lavori all'uncinetto..quindi, quando sono andata all' Ikea la scorsa settimana ho comprato questo pouf e ho deciso immediatamente di coprirlo all'uncinetto. Trovo che sia davvero carino, e voi?

Mission impossible

Tomorrow I finally have my Dutch exam..but this is not the "mission impossible" that I was thinking when I wrote the title of this post.
No, the mission impossible is study! Most of all when I just bought 4 interesting magazines to read! I'll try! See you in a couple of days (hopefully with the pictures of the new chairs..).

Domani finalmente ho il mio esame di olandese..ma questa non è la "missione impossibile" a cui mi riferivo quando ho scritto il titolo di questo post.
No, la missione impossibile è studiare! Soprattutto quando ho appena comprato 4 riviste interessanti da leggere! Ci proverò! Ci vediamo tra un paio di giorni (si spera con le immagini delle nuove sedie..).

Today I arrived late to my dutch lesson..but I had a very good excuse: the sun!

Christmas is in the air..to be honest, a very cold air here in Eindhoven!
It's time for me to leave the blue apartment and come back to Italy, to my family and friends to celebrate together. Since I don't have my computer with me, will be quite difficult to post thoughts and pics as usual I do. So, in advance, I wish to all of you a Merry Christmas and a good start of the 2011! I'm greatful to all of you who reading this blog (92 lovely people!) aid to make me feel happy and (in some way) special.

Natale è nell'aria..ad essere onesti, un' aria molto fredda qui a Eindhoven!
E' il momento per me di lasciare l'appartamento blu e tornare in Italia, dalla mia famiglia e dagli amici per festeggiare insieme. Dal momento che non ho il mio computer con me, sarà molto difficile pubblicare pensieri e foto, come faccio di solito. Così, in anticipo, auguro a tutti voi un Buon Natale e un buon inizio di 2011! Sono grata a tutti voi che leggendo questo blog (92 persone meravigliose!) mi aiutate a farmi sentire felice e (in qualche modo) speciale.
