Quick, Easy & Beautiful (Nursery) Art!

In addition to getting everything together for the RSA install next week, I've been hard at work completing a nursery redesign for a client who is scheduled to be induced today (hi Alicia!!).  One of the hardest pieces has been finding art for above the crib--I even tweeted a few weeks ago about looking for good books to be used as art in a baby's nursery, but had trouble finding the perfect look.  Low and behold I found it last week at a thrift store in the form of a Little Golden Book (remember those??).


I wanted to use a book that had good art but few words--this Bunnies ABC's was just the thing with it's slightly yellowed pages and simple (but colorful) illustrations. 


I took 3 Ikea Ribba frames...


Three of my favorite pages...


Added a 12x16 mat from Michael's...


Mounted the pages to the back of the fake photo from the mat insert (see above) using good ol' Scotch tape...


And created some pretty beautiful art! I really love how the tint of the pages matches the outside mat and gives it a bit of a custom feel.

(don't worry, images on the back on visible once the frames are on the wall!)

Thrift Store Art


This piece of art is the centerpiece of my yet to be finished living room. It's huge and interesting in a way that's almost ugly, but still beautiful at the same time. I love the colors and the fact that the frame is kind of knocked around along the edges. The beauty of thrift store art is that it's almost always a delicate balance of ugly & beautiful, something that's unique but gives you pause as to whether you can really pull it off or not. My 40"x60.5" piece was only $10--now that's what I call some pretty fly unique & original art!
