Sweet Red Velvet

The wedding season has ushered in.  Last Sunday, a special girl got married. Elsie Flannigan of Red Velvet Art.  Kendra and I had the best time collaborating with her.  Boy, was it ever a fun and different and sweet experience of a wedding??!!  Unlike any we've done before.  We can't say enough good things about Elsie.  She's queen of inventions and talented in many areas:  fashion, style, DIY, and entrepreneurship.  She's humble, kind, sweet, relaxed and open.  This picture above is just a snapshot from her good friend.  You can read and feel Elsie's excitement here in this...blog post.   The professional photographer was Anna of Arrow and Apple. of Seattle, WA.  She was super sweet to work with, too.  More to come on this very soon, we hope.

Next week, we'll share what we {kendra, myself, and interns} have been busy, busy working on.  Excited to share some sweet posts and also let you in on the interior design plans I'm preparing for a much anticipated coffee bar/cafe that will be opening in July.

Pickwick HOUSE Opening

Pickwick House 

Hey all!  We're so thrilled to finally be open at Pickwick House.  We had our soft opening on Valentines Day and it was a great success, thanks to all who came, and to all those {family, friends, and colleagues}who poured their hard work and talents into the building and into our little dream.  We were and are very proud to be here, finally.

Next week, I'll be sharing with you the infinite possibilities that we are envisioning for our showroom/design studio/event studio.  We have many exciting things lined up....including our first workshop scheduled for the beginning of March.

Canopy Love


I haven't posted in a while. I've been so busy that I can't keep up with basic e-mails and phone calls.

Here's an update on my client's bebe nursery. It's finally starting to come together. She's due any day, and we still have yet to put the finishing touches in place. The pelmet/Canopy turned out exactly as I imagined it to be. The whole installation took two hours to set firmly in place. I still need to steam press some of the wrinkles out.

I've been anxious to show you this amazing chandelier that my friend, Joann, an antique dealer, discovered at an estate sale in K.C. a couple of years ago. How do you like it against the kilkenney green striped ceiling and lemon twist canopy?

I'll be posting another post today as well. We've got a special capri blue slip covered {thrift store} rocker that's due to be finished tomorrow. Can't wait to see this sweet mom-to-be rocking her sweet little one in it soon and very soon.

Sneak Peak of Notre Dame Bash by Sharon Taylor Designs



I hope you're having a fun filled weekend! For the first time in a long time, I'm having a football filled weekend, and it's not the type you might expect.

We've been busy here, at Sharon Taylor Designs , prepping for a sweet little boy's first birthday bash. Notre Dame themed. Baby's papa is a Fighting Irish alumni. Don't worry, we're not going to be hot gluing plastic footballs and helmets everywhere. I know that bugs.

I'll have more of this game's highlights coming up. But first, let me just tell you about the Upcoming RAVES... Flowers that are a thrill to behold {arranged in vintage urns}, created by the amazing Orchid Lady + Eleanor's yummy homemade cookies tucked into some drop-dead darling Taylor-made favor boxes. Taylor-made Banners + Candies + Party Hats.

The candy jar is filled with citrus flavored gumdrops and topped with a simple Taylor-made paper fountain. It's sitting atop a scarf that Eleanor started knitting upon a few weeks ago. I asked Eleanor if she could whip the scarf into a classic Notre Dame rugby sweater instead of a scarf...we'll see if she pulls thru on that one. The baby's mama and I also thought a vintage football would be grand, but we did not score on that one. The reproductions are on back order for twelve more weeks. Buzzer! {That means game's over, and I'm going to bed now}.

Snowed In!











It's single digits here. Plus snow!! These two things = a lotta clothing flyin on and off {soggy socks, mittens and other woolens}, which is in turn making the laundry piles grow {needlessly faster}... I'm wishing those piles would fall back into the single digits soon and very soon!!

Took Syl-Syl out in her new sled last weekend. She loves it. I scoped a few table scape photo-shoot spots while out too. I've got some icy inspirationals...just need a full-blast heater to help me w/the set-up. Any body got some hot air and time to blow on me? I'd truly love some willing hands {clad in wool}. I have special hot chocolate. Now, mind you...this is Not cocoa! It is Hot CHOCOLAT {real dark chocolate shavings simmered in hot creme + a dolling up of real whipping creme}! Ring me if you're in on it!

Jack London says, "You can't wait for inspiration...you have to go after it with a club." I think instead of a club, a shovel might work best for now. I do love his fierceness... It gets me fired up and ready to go strong everyday!

Twirling


I hope you had a few nice Holidays over the weekend.

I did a lot of twirling over the Holidays.

First twirl about:
I was given the award for Best 417 Window Designs {windows by Sharon Taylor Designs @ Staxx.} I did a little twirl around after hearing of this award. I got dizzy and fell. No skinned knees. {Tweaking on the twirling to come...}

Other Twirl-Abouts: Twirled up a few paper discs for some parties and weddings {pink and blue ones for a photo shoot to come + Tutorials coming soon also}. {The brown gift box was for my aunt and uncles 50th} Happy 50th Jim and Polly!

Also, over the Holidays...Will's mom made at least ten of the most outstanding gourmet meals I've ever eaten...{for the whole lot of the 10+ family}! All I did was twirl the dish sponge around and watch her twirl her Martha Stewart-like creations. One of my favorites she made: Panetone Bread Pudding w/Custard, Pumpkin Drizzle and Whipping Creme.

Recap of Year:
First, I launched sharontaylordesigns.com, then the lifestyle blog a bit later in the year. In a quick turn-about off of those two things, I found my work being published among some of the best online sites in the design industry + the phone started ringing w/new clients and it hasn't stopped ringing since. Thanks again for all of your support!!

Sorry about the over usage of twirling. Once I find a word I like, it's over and over again until I'm done.

A Mod-Traditional Dining Room by Sharon Taylor Designs

Most American families don't use their dining rooms, but the couple who own this beautiful English home DO... and here's why:

What do you think? My clients are quite pleased with it, and so am I!

This dining room was opened up to a small kitchen. Basically, the door leading into the dining room was small and squatty. It was widened and raised, with all trim and molding made to match all of the original 1920's styled woodwork.

While the widened doorway was a really grand and needed update..the two conjoined rooms were still feeling disjointed and not cohesive at all. The kitchen was already painted this beautiful color of blue {the Brit husband's fave oceanic color}, and the dining room had butter yellow walls and yellowish curtains. I convinced them that they needed to "be-Out-with" the yellow and bring on the same vibrant blue as the kitchen. I knew that this would happily marry the two rooms together and give the space one large, sweeping-room effect. {Unfortunately, I have no photos of the kitchen to share yet...but will soon.}

This mod-traditional project is pretty much right in line w/the way this middle aged couple live. They are madly in love after 15 years of marriage and whenever I visit them for their bedroom makeover, the husband is usually cooking dinner on their viking range, the table is set w/lit candles, fresh flowers...and then she arrives home from work with a "Hi, honey I'm home." and a smooch. They have their long dinner chat together and then they take their fast paced nightly walk...arm in arm. {Mod, yet traditional living and very sweet}

The drapes and chandelier are from West Elm. Flowers by Janet Pearson, The Orchid Lady. Black Chair Slipcovers designed by me. We used the chairs they already owned...but they were needing some serious style makeovers since being purchased in the 80's. I had them re-dressed in some classy custom made slipcovers using wholesale heavy duty black denim. The dining table is an antique and the wings on the sides fold down. It seats six comfortably, but could also be used as a credenza or sofa table as well. The rug was found at Tuesday Morning.

An Argentinian Dining Set to Cry For by Sharon Taylor Designs


A real quick post today...I'm off to pick up some emerald green rail-roaded drapes today from the work room. So excited to use them for an interior shoot today in a cobalt blue dining room.

Here at the end of the busiest year I've had in the business...I'm setting aside time to try to have ten interior rooms professionally photographed. These are all my projects that have not been shared yet. So, yes, all my 'talk' will now be a for real thing . My good friend, Sesha Shannon of Convey Studio Photography is going to be giving them life by capturing them at their best. I am nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time. I hope it all delivers.

Shout Out: I have been so very fortunate to have some of the best people, friends, family and photographers that have been willing to take a chance on me. Thank you!!

It's been a wild ride since I stepped foot into this thing called a design career three years ago, but I am officially hooked on it! Ups and downs along the way have made me stronger, and I have truly enjoyed the lessons learned on each project I've taken on. Many, many lessons learned that I hope to pass on to readers and viewers.

So here is a set of chairs that I found a flea market for my sister's dining room. They gave me ugly eyes when I first found them. {Think yucky Glossified dark wood finish from the seventies with a 1980's rosette styled fabric}...wish I had the 'befores'!

I gave them a lacquered high gloss black finish and white leather upholstery + nickel tacks and VOila, I WANT! Do you like? Also, I found the amazing Czechoslovakian chandelier for her as well.

Gotta run and get my stylizing game on for the shoots!
